Kannagi's Kanpachi Manga Spinoff Prints Yuruyuri Crossover

Kannagi's official parody re-imagines cast in yuri fantasy inspired by Yuruyuri

The Kannagi spinoff manga Kanpachi featured a crossover with another manga, Yuruyuri, in the August issue of Ichijinsha's Monthly Comic Rex magazine on Wednesday. Kanpachi is the official parody spinoff of Eri Takenashi's Kannagi magical comedy manga, as drawn by Takenashi's own brother Shinichi Yuhki. Namori draws Yuruyuri, a story about four close friends who form a club, in another Ichijinsha magazine, Comic Yuri Hime.

The 53rd and latest Kanpachi manga installment opens with a full-color spoof (pictured right) of a Yuruyuri book cover illustration, complete with the cast of Kannagi/Kanpachi in Yuruyuri's school uniforms. The actual manga puts the Kanpachi characters in a tongue-in-cheek yuri fantasy.

Bandai Entertainment released both the beginning of the Kannagi: Crazy Shrine Maidens manga and its anime adaptation. ALC Publishing announced last Thursday that it will release the original Yuruyuri manga digitally through JManga. Crunchyroll will stream the second Yuruyuri anime season outside Japan this summer as it did for the first season.
