Doraemon, Robot Cat From the Future, Celebrates -100th Birthday

September 3, 2012 is no mere date in the annals of manga history — it marks the 100th anniversary before the birthday of the iconic robot cat Doraemon. In the story, Doraemon was created on September 3, 2112.
The official Doraemon Channel website is celebrating the anniversary with a Flash animation (snapshot above).
Google marks the -100th birthday with a video, showing how people can search for real-life incarnations of Doraemon's secret gadgets.
Kawasaki City, the birthplace of the late Doraemon co-creator Fujiko F. Fujio (born Hiroshi Fujimoto), is giving away Doraemon's certificate of residence at the city for free. The city will be presenting Doraemon himself with his certificate at the local Fujiko F. Fujio Museum this afternoon. The museum opened exactly one year ago on September 3, 2011, and it greeted its 500,000th visitor last month.
