Pokémon's Charizard Gets His Own Nintendo 3DS XL Variant

The official website for the Pokémon franchise revealed a limited edition Charizard-themed Japanese Nintendo 3DS XL (known as the 3DS LL in Japan) system on Friday. The Pokémon-inspired charcoal black 3DS XL has not only a design of Charizard (known as Lizard in Japanese) on the cover, but also a Charizard-expelled fire design on the backside.
The official website notes that the system will not be sold first-come-first-serve, but instead by random drawing. Applications to purchase the device will be available to fill in from November 3 to November 26. Applications can be found at Pokémon Center stores across Japan for physical pickup of the product, and applications can also be sent by mail by downloading the form from the website.
Those who win a chance to purchase the system will be notified sequentially in order by postcards that will start arriving on December 7. The system can only be bought at Pokémon Centers in Japan, and cannot be purchased for home delivery. In the case of leftover systems, there is a chance that those devices will be sold online on the “Pokémon Daisuki Club” (We Love Pokémon Club) at a later time.
The limited variant will retail for the standard 18,900-yen (about US$236) price.
The first limited edition variant of the 3DS XL was a Pikachu Yellow system that sold out at Pokémon Centers after people waited over four hours in line.
