Steins;Gate Inspires Stage Play in October

posted on by Jennifer Sherman
6 new stories based on 5pb./Nitroplus's game to run in Tokyo

At Anime Contents Expo on Saturday, the stage event for the 5pb./Nitroplus game franchise Steins;Gate revealed that there will be a "Living ADV: Steins;Gate" stage play adaptation in October. The production will run at the Zepp Diver City hall in Tokyo from October 12 to October 20. Tickets will go on sale on July 28.

The play will feature six stories not told in the original work. Recipients of the production's official email newsletter will help choose the stories. The play will also encourage active participation by the audience during the performance.

The story of the original game revolves around the eccentric college student Rintarō "Okarin" Okabe and his "Mirai Gadget Kenkyūsho" ("Future Gadget Laboratory") circle of friends in a realistic version of Tokyo's Akihabara district. The friends turn a microwave oven into a machine that sends email messages to the past, and that attracts the attention of a mysterious organization called SERN.

5pb. and Nitroplus released the original Steins;Gate game on the Xbox 360 in 2009 as its second "scientific adventure" series title (after Chaos;HEAd and before Robotics;Notes). The game spawned a 2011 television anime series that in turn, is inspiring the Steins;Gate Fuka Ryōiki no Déjà vu film on April 20. The next Steins;Gate game, Steins;Gate Senkei Kōsoku no Phenogram (Steins;Gate: Linear Bounded Phenogram), will ship on April 25.

Robotics;Notes is also getting a stage play adaptation at the Zenrōsai/Space Zero Hall near Tokyo's Shibuya station during the Golden Week holidays.
