Moe Character Electric Shavers to Be Sold in Akihabara

Izumi Products to offer 600 Izumi Matsumoto razors in June

The electronics manufacturer Izumi Products Company unveiled the latest moe branding, a moe men's electric razor, on Friday. The company will release 600 "Izumi Matsumoto version" shavers at select electronics stores in Tokyo's Akihabara district for 7,000 yen (about US$69) on June 1.

The moe shaver is a limited-edition version of the company's existing IZF-V50 three-bladed electric razor. The Izumi Matsumoto shavers feature designs with the moe character on the product's body and packaging, and it also bundles an Izumi Matsumoto microfiber pouch. The IZF-V50 increases shaving time over the previous version's by 23%, doubles the blades' lifespan to two years, and updates other features.

Shikiuta designed the 19-year-old moe character Izumi Matsumoto. The company's name and headquarters — located in Nagano Prefecture's Matsumoto city — inspired the mascot's name. (Coincidentally, she shares a name with Kimagure Orange Road manga creator Izumi Matsumoto.) Izumi's hobby is "shaver cosplay," and her special skill is taking things apart and putting them back together. Izumi Products Company appointed her as their "shaver public relations officer."

The company began streaming a moe shaver creation video and an Izumi Matsumoto profile video last week. Izumi even has her own Twitter account.
