Atlus' 3DS RPG to ship in Japan this week; N. America on July 16

Japanese video game news website 4Gamer posted a 10-minute gameplay video for Atlus' Shin Megami Tensei IV Nintendo 3DS video game on Tuesday. The video shows the opening scene from the game, then goes through game's basic system, demon troops, the battle function "Niyari," the "Whisper Events" that allow the player to learn skills from demons, and what happens when the player's entire party dies, which does not necessarily signify a game over.

The game will ship in Japan on May 23 for 6,980 yen (US$68). Customers who pre-order the game will receive a "sound & art collection" for the game. The game is also getting a limited-edition themed Nintendo 3DS XL in Japan.

The game will ship in North America on July 16. The first printing of the game will retail for US$49.99 and will include a strategy and design book that features concept art by character designer Masayuki Doi, a Shin Megami Tensei Music Collection CD with songs from the franchise, and a slipcase also designed by Doi. Amazon describes the game as follows:

In 1492, the kingdom of East Mikado is protected by high walls, with the castle and its king at the center. A young warrior, 18 years old, has just been chosen to become a Samurai, one who, with the aid of a special tool called a Gauntlet, will serve as a secret protector of the city. It is the duty of the Samurai to exterminate a demon threat of which its citizens are unaware. However, the situation is not as simple as human versus demon; There are factions within the human group that must be discovered and understood in order for alliances to be formed, paths set, and the destiny of the world decided.

Kazuma Kaneko is in charge of the original scenario and series demon design, Kazuyuki Yamai is directing the game, and Ryota Kozuka serves as the composer.
