Nintendo Drops Ban on Super Smash Bros. Melee Streams at Evo

Smash Bros. community raised US$94,500 in tournament charity for breast cancer research

Nintendo reversed its decision to block Evolution Championship Series (Evo), the world's largest video game tournament, from streaming matches of Super Smash Bros. Melee.

The Super Smash Bros. community had raised over US$94,500 for The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, a feat that earned the game its spot in the competition. However, Evo updated its streaming schedule to reflect the ban by Nintendo of America Inc. on Tuesday. The decision was reversed several hours later.

Nintendo updated its terms for streaming company-owned content on YouTube in May. The new terms no longer allow Let's Players (LPers) to garner ad revenue from its content. Instead, the company would place ads around the videos that would generate revenue for the company instead of the videos' posters.
