Girls und Panzer Director Interested In Making Pro Wrestling Anime

posted on by Eric Stimson
Hopes to make it accessible to non-wrestling fans

Tsutomu Mizushima, the director of anime such as Bludgeoning Angel Dokuro-chan, Squid Girl and Girls und Panzer, revealed on Twitter on April 12 that he would be interested in making a pro wrestling anime. "The problem is whether or not there'll be a request for one."

His tweet prompted a flurry of questions from followers. When asked what sort of approach he would take, Mizushima responded that he'd like to make it "so that both pro wrestling fans and anime fans would enjoy it." He wrote that he would personally like to see "serious matches" and set aside the issue of whether the rivalries will be scripted or real. When another user mentioned Wanna Be the Strongest in the World, Mizushima wrote that "moving from idols to pro wrestling was a fantastic approach." When someone suggested a female cast, he responded that "it'd be great to make a work with characters that have appeal beyond those interested in pro wrestling (^^)." Finally, he declared that "the All-Japan/New Japan era was easy to follow and I liked it." (All Japan Pro Wrestling and New Japan Pro Wrestling are Japan's two main wrestling promotions.)
