A Certain Scientific Railgun is Having a Soccer Showdown with Girls und Panzer

Sometimes sporting events are much more exciting when there are important things at stake. Such as, your favorite anime series. That's why it's so noteworthy that on August 17, J. League Division 2 teams Tokyo Verdy and Mito Hollyhock will be going head to head in a match that's getting a lot of otaku buzz.

Both teams are collaborating with anime properties—Hollyhock with Girls und Panzer, and Tokyo Verdy with A Certain Scientific Railgun. There are even special Hollyhock jerseys with an angler fish on the back, and Verdy jerseys with the series' frog mascot.

Verdy is totally owning up to the anime showdown, with an entire dedicated to the match up, and front-page banners showing the Railgun girls ready to challenge their tankery rivals.

Even some mangaka are getting in on the buzz, like Katsura Takada (Act on Baby, Flag), whose website declares him to be a proud F.C. Tokyo and Tokyo Verdy supporter.
