SHAFT's Madogatari Event Gets Encore in Tokyo

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

Studio Shaft launched the "Madogatari" exhibit last year to celebrate its 40th anniversary. The exhibit focused on its two most popular works—Puella Magi Madoka Magica and the Monogatari series—and ran in Tokyo, Osaka, and Sapporo with a huge fan turnout. Due to its success, the exhibit got an additional tour in Nagoya earlier this year.

Now, the popular exhibition is getting a "Tokyo Encore" at Tokyo's Tepia Event Hall from this Thursday, September 22 to Sunday, September 25. Fans can enjoy the exhibit displays, purchase some of the load of exclusive goods available, and they can even cosplay on the last day of the event.

Shaft is also previewing footage from the Kubikiri Cycle: Aoiro Savant to Zaregoto Tsukai (Decapitation Cycle: The Blue Savant and the Prankster) OVA project, based on the first novel in NisiOisin's Zaregoto novel series, at the event. The footage includes the debut of Sangatsu no Phantasia's opening theme song "Cobalt World."

The "Ultimate Madoka~Hangyaku no Monogatari~" figure inspired by the Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Movie Part 3: Rebellion anime will be on display at the exhibit. Ume Aoki, the Madoka Magica character designer, created a special illustration that was used to make the figure.

The "Cossan Meets Madogatari-ten" cosplay event will include large backgrounds to use for taking pictures. The event will run at Comfort Aoyama from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday.

The exhibit will also feature a new Madogatari video about Akio Watanabe's costume designs for each heroine in the Monogatari series.

Madogatari events will continue even after its Tokyo Encore concludes. The exhibit's official website announced last Friday that the "Madogatari Gallery" art exhibit will be held at the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa from December 22 to Christmas. The event will feature Shaft's works and the materials and processes involved in making them.
