Tite Kubo Returns to Twitter With Manga, Bleach Cosplay

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

Bleach creator Tite Kubo abruptly left Twitter without an explanation in September 2015. However, Kubo launched a new official Twitter account on Halloween this year. Although Kubo describes the return as "casual," his comeback is leaving a striking impression so far.

Kubo's first picture posted on his new account is a commemorative image featuring the Bleach characters Ichigo Kurosaki and Mayuri Kurotsuchi. The image celebrates the 15 years from 2001 to 2016 that he drew his original manga. The series ended in this year's 38th issue of Weekly Shonen Jump magazine on August 22. Kubo said at the time, "One way or another, I was able to finish drawing it in 15 years! I'm very thankful to all of the people who read it."

Kubo is undoubtedly happy and relieved that his popular series could reach his planned finish after all those years. On the other hand, Kubo seems unsure how to settle into a new lifestyle. After the initial Bleach image, Kubo posted a short autobiographical manga that describes his current life.

The story begins with Kubo explaining that he has been aimlessly spending his days playing Dragon Quest and doing things like getting a massage for his left shoulder that started to hurt while he was working on his manga. The max level for Dragon Quest X apparently increased from 85 to 96. Kubo had new momentum in his gameplay, and he had a good team to work with. But things didn't progress as well as he hoped, and his play style wasn't working out. Overall, Kubo's short manga leaves the impression that he is somewhat unsatisfied with his current daily life, and he's not quite sure what to do with himself.

Tweeting the manga alone would have been fascinating for fans, but Kubo's next tweets are just as surprising. He posted a series of pictures of himself cosplaying as Mayuri Kurotsuchi.

If Kubo can't figure out what he wants to do with himself manga-wise post-Bleach, he may have a new career waiting. Judging by the high quality of his Mayuri creation, cosplay might be a good choice for the time being.
