Yoshitsugu Matsuoka Shows Off Rap Skills in Sword Art Online: Memory Defrag App Video

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

Yoshitsugu Matsuoka is a prolific voice actor who has played characters such as Yowamushi Pedal's Hajime Aoyagi, Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma's Sōma Yukihira, and ēlDLIVE's Dr. Ravu. He has also contributed his singing voice to perform themes with fellow cast members for anime including Super Lovers, DAYS, and Kiss Him, Not Me. Matsuoka recently got another chance to showcase his musical talents as well as his role as Sword Art Online's Kirito.

Bandai Namco Entertainment began streaming a new promotional video for its Sword Art Online: Memory Defrag iOS and Android game on Friday. In the video, Matsuoka appears on the fictional talent television program SAO Nodo Jiman, a probable reference to the NHK Nodo Jiman (NHK Amateur Singing Contest) show, to perform "Memo-Defu Yarō Yo!" Matsuoka raps about his Sword Art skills and highlights the game's "tap and flick" gameplay in the song. However, his performance apparently isn't up snuff for the unseen judges.

The voice actor already appeared in a previous commercial for the app that began streaming in November. Matsuoka doesn't sing in that video, but he does ends up in a sword fight with a monster. In battle at least, Matsuoka's role as Kirito helps him come out on top.

The game launched in Japan on August 31 and in North America on January 23. The game is free-to-play with the option of in-game purchases. The side-scroll-type action RPG features both the television anime's story and an original story. It supports online co-operative play.

Bandai Namco Entertainment previously released the Sword Art Online: Code Register mobile game.

The Sword Art Online the Movie: Ordinal Scale anime film will premiere in Japan on February 18. Eleven Arts will begin screening the film in the United States on March 9, and it will debut in Canada on March 17.
