Magazine Bundles Detective Conan's Yomiuri Shimbun Newspaper Extra

The October issue of Shogakukan's Weekly Shōnen Sunday Super magazine bundled a re-release of the special Detective Conan-themed Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper extra that was originally distributed in April. The newspaper extra celebrates manga creator Gōshō Aoyama's various manga series having a combined 200 million copies in print worldwide.
The newspaper extra was distributed in various areas of Tokyo this past April, and many fans outside the area also said they wanted the item. The magazine and Yomiuri Shimbun decided to re-release the newspaper extra as a bonus item in response to fans' interest. A representative of the newspaper said, "Offering a PR newspaper extra as a magazine bonus item is extremely unprecedented in the 143-year history of the Yomiuri Shimbun Company."
The opening page of the magazine's current issue is revealing a Detective Conan puzzle-solving project by SCRAP's Real Escape Game. Readers can use the issue and bundled newspaper extra to uncover a murderer. In addition, the magazine is running present campaigns to give away Heiji and Kazuha pair cushion covers, Heiji Hattori Tosho cards, and Blu-ray Discs of the Detective Conan: The Crimson Love Letter anime film signed by Aoyama. Everyone who applies and pays 1,500 yen (about US$14) in fees will also receive a set of five reproduction illustrations and a frame.
This year's combined 37th and 38th issue of Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine published the 1,000th chapter of Aoyama's Detective Conan (Case Closed) manga earlier this month. The manga is the first series in the magazine to reach its 1,000th chapter.
SCRAP's newest Detective Conan Real Escape Game debuted in Tokyo in June.
