NHK's Educational Warring-States Manga Gets Anime Video

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

Masato Taniguchi's Watashi no Tame ni Kassen Shinaide! -Renai Yōso Shika Nai Sengoku Drama- (Don't Battle for My Sake!: Warring-States Drama With Only Romance Elements) manga has inspired a promotional video. The video will premiere on NHK's various channels on Saturday and air irregularly. The video will also debut on NHK's Domo, Manga Desu. website, which seeks to educate people about Japan's NHK public broadcasting system, on Wednesday.

The manga's video stars Kana Hanazawa as Yuri, Yūichi Nakamura as Oda Nobunaga, Tomokazu Sugita as Akechi Mitsuhide, Toshiyuki Morikawa as Ishida Mitsunari, Suzuko Mimori as manga creator M, and Norio Wakamoto as the narrator.

In the original manga's story, manga creator M writes a historical manga centering on the mysterious woman Yuri and her love interests who are military commanders during Japan's Warring States period (1467-1603). The creator excitedly brings her work to an NHK producer with the hope of making it into a Taiga drama. However, the producer points out some problems with her romance story and educates her about NHK's process of making live-action historical series. The manga creator plans to revise her work, and the producer says he will be the first to read it when after its completion.

The first chapter of Taniguchi's "nonsense warring-states romantic fantasy comedy" launched on the website on September 13. The Domo, Manga Desu. website also features other "Manga de Wakaru NHK" (Understand NHK Through Manga) manga by various creators. The manga provide information about NHK and its offerings.
