Kumamoto Prefecture's Kumamon Visits Weekly Shonen Jump Offices

Ever since Kumamoto Prefecture suffered a damaging earthquake last year, its popular mascot Kumamon has been at the forefront to help raise money and awareness for the area. At the end of September, popular manga artists drew Kumamon for a special illustration collection to raise funds. One Piece creator and Kumamoto native Eiichiro Oda has also been proactive, designing boxes for the area's mandarin oranges and endorsing campaigns with One Piece events and merchandise.
Kumamon and One Piece are still working together for the benefit of Kumamoto Prefecture. The bear headed to the Weekly Shonen Jump offices on November 6, exchanged business cards with the magazine's editor-in-chief Hiroyuki Nakano, celebrate One Piece's 20th anniversary, and shared appreciation for the magazine's cooperative efforts with the mascot to restore Kumamoto.
The ONE PIECE Kumamoto Reconstruction Project will continue into next year. Nakano told Kumamon that if he asks Eiichiro Oda for his support, there's no way he will refuse. Details including the project's dates and events, will be announced in Weekly Shōnen Magazine and on the One Piece website.
