One Piece Celebrates 21st Anniversary with New Magazine Run, Watches, Collaborations, Lottery, More

posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins

Last year, Shueisha established July 22 as One Piece Day to celebrate One Piece's 20th anniversary. The celebrations included the announcement of the Hollywood live-action adaptation. This year, the celebrations of One Piece's 21st anniversary feature several announcements of related goods and collaborations. Festivities on Sunday included special stage events and activities at One Piece Tokyo Tower.

Shueisha had teased last month that this year's 34th issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine on Monday would have an "important announcement" for One Piece. One Piece adorns the cover of this issue along with two lucky fans.

The issue reveals a new project titled "3D2Y to 2020 KISEKI" that will be fully revealed online and in the Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper on Tuesday. Weekly Shonen Jump teases the project as a collaboration between One Piece and Yomiuri Shimbun related to sports. Original manga creator Eiichiro Oda drew a special image in the issue featuring the Straw Hat Crew playing different sports.

The issue also features a collaboration manga with YouTuber group Fisher's, a set of stickers by illustrator Kanahei, and a mini clear file. Not to mention the collaboration manga with Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma announced last week.

Weekly Shonen Jump is also starting an application process to win figures. The first application is for figures of One Piece, but the next three issues will include applications for figures for Haikyu!!, Gintama, My Hero Academia, and Kuroko's Basketball.

Weekly Shonen Jump also revealed that the One Piece Magazine is making a comeback. The first magazine run had three issues that shipped in July, August, and September last year. The magazines featured a serialized novel about Ace, a serialized picture book, interviews, recipes, lists of what music manga creator Eiichiro Oda is listening to, a "what if" short manga by Oda, crafting projects, fanart, Oda character sketches, manga by other creators, merchandise information, quizzes, and more.

The new magazine will be quarterly and will launch this fall.

One Piece has an "Ichiban Kuji" lottery that launched at participating 7-Eleven stores in Japan on Saturday. Fans can win one of five figures, as well as 4-inch plates, mugs, or shikishi boards. The lottery tickets cost 650 yen (about US$5.90) each.

One Piece is also collaborating with the Tendence watch maker for two wristwatches. Pre-orders start on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. The watches have two designs: "East Blue" (left) and "Log Pose" (right). They retail for 59,000 yen (about US$532) each.
