Radiant, Twin Star Exorcists Creators Hold Joint Talk Event in Kyoto

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

Japanese manga creator Yoshiaki Sukeno (Twin Star Exorcists) and French bande dessinée creator Tony Valente (Radiant) will appear together at the "Tony Valente x Sukeno Yoshiaki Talk Show Shōnen, Manga ni Deau" (Boys Meet in Manga) event at Kyoto International Manga Museum on November 17.

Institut français du Japon - Kansai is holding the talk event as part of the "Dokusho no Aki Bande Dessinée no Shūmatsu in Kansai" (Reading Fall: Bande Dessinée Weekend in Kansai) event. The talk show will discuss how the lives of the two creators of the same generation converged through Japanese manga. Sukeno and Valente will talk about their paths to becoming manga creators and also participate in a signing.

Bande dessinée is the French term for Franco-Belgian comics, sometimes shortened simply to BD.

Participation is limited to 200 attendees, and they must purchase regular museum admission. The museum will begin distributing tickets at 10:00 a.m. on the day of the talk. The signing will be limited to the first 50 attendees who purchase designated publications at the museum shop.

Valente's French fantasy comic follows Seth, a boy who seeks to become a great magician, and a group of witches who seek to travel to the Radiant. Radiant is a mythical land that spawns monsters called "Nemesis" which fall to the world from the sky. While traveling, they are also hunted by The Inquisition.

Animation studio Lerche is adapting the comic into an anime series that will premiere on the NHK Educational channel on October 6. FUNimation Entertainment will simuldub the anime series beginning on October 27. Crunchyroll will stream the anime with English subtitles this fall.

Sukeno's Twin Star Exorcists manga was adapted into a 50-episode anime series that premiered in 2016. Crunchyroll streamed the supernatural anime as it aired in Japan. Viz Media is publishing the manga in English.
