Hiroyuki Takei, Santa Inoue Draw Illustrations in Support For BlacKkKlansman Film

posted on by Kim Morrissy

Manga artists Hiroyuki Takei (Shaman King) and Santa Inoue (Tokyo Tribe) released illustrations in support of Spike Lee's BlacKkKlansman film, which will open in Japan on March 22.

BlacKkKlansman is based on the 2014 memoir Black Klansman by Ron Stallworth. The plot follows a black detective exposing the Ku Klux Klan in Colorado Springs in the 1970s. The film was first released theatrically in the United States in August 2018.

Santa Inoue commented: "Spike Lee's latest film is more relevant than ever in this era where racism still persists."

Hiroyuki Takei commented: "When you fight, it's important to have levity and humor. I also love the 70s music and scenery. It's actually a really peaceful film!"

Last year, Santa Inoue drew a poster for the 2018 American basketball film Uncle Drew, which also focused on Black characters.
