Princess Jellyfish Creator Will Draw Your Motherhood Story

Princess Jellyfish and Tokyo Tarareba Girls creator Akiko Higashimura will draw an original manga based on the theme "Mom's Daily Life." The manga will be based on the winning story entry submitted via Twitter as part of the larger campaign with Kellogg's 1/2 Granola. Stories can be submitted with the hashtag "#ママの日常あるある."
Users can submit their stories beginning on March 15 until April 10. 30 runner-ups will receive a variety of Kellogg's products.
The campaign taps the characters from Higashimura's Manga Taisho-nominated series Mama wa Tenparist for its ads. The "Mama wa Tenparist's Mornings" ads focus on marketing keywords like "nutrition," "tasty," and "healthy."
Higashimura's Mama wa Tenparist manga ran for four volumes in Shueisha's Chorus magazine. The series follows a mother's difficulties raising her son. The Japan Media Arts Festival describes the story:
The essays on child-rearing in Akiko Higashimura's documentary style manga depict in a comical way the female manga artist's beloved son Gocchan's eccentric behavior. With an outstanding sense for quips, Higashimura humorously and realistically depicts her daily life at the mercy of work and child-rearing, as well as the fanciful remarks and daydreams unique to early childhood. Breaking through the convention that child-rearing essays=pregnancy and birth, aimed at women, this manga is popular with a wide range of readers as a comic featuring jokes.
Higashimura recently ended her Tokyo Tarareba Girls and Princess Jellyfish manga in 2017. She's set to start a new series this spring.
