The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced today the creation of a new category of awards for animated feature films. Nominations for the award will first be accepted for the 2002 Acadamy awards provided that a minimum of eight animation films are released in the year, otherwise nominations will first be accepted when 8 animated features are released in one year.
