Sony Seeks Lessees At Metreon

posted on by Garry Berryhill
Sony offers "retail brand agreements" to vendors to fill vacancies at San Francisco shopping complex.

Sony is making moves to jump-start the Metreon, says the San Francisco Business Times.

In the last 18 months Sony's Metreon shopping center has lost several tenants, among them Microsoft's only retail store in 2001 and the ADV Action Zone this past October.

To make the center more attractive to potential vendors, Sony has begun to open new stores under other companies' brands. To replace the lost Microsoft Store, Sony opened its own computer store. A Bandai America Inc. store has also been opened, also under Sony control. Jerry Chu says "by having the store we can brand that entire franchise to the public."

Some point to the six month to one year agreements as a sign of uncertainty on the side of the vendors.
