30th annual Annie Awards winners to be announced on February 1st

ASIFA-Hollywood announced the nominees for the 30th annual Annie Awards today. Spirited Away has been nominated for 4 Annies, "Outstanding Achievement in an Animated Theatrical Feature," "Outstanding Achievement for Directing in an Animated Feature Production" (Hayao Miyazaki), "Outstanding Achievement for Music in an Animated Feature Production" (Joe Hisaichi) and "Outstanding Achievement for Writing in an Animated Feature Production" (Hayao Miyazaki).

In the "Outstanding Achievement in an Animated Theatrical Feature," (best feature) category, Spirited Away will face stiff copention from "Lilo & Stitch," "Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron," "Ice Age" and "Monsters, Inc."

Despite beign the best reviewed movie of the year, Spirited Away did not lead the nimonation. Lilo and Stitch was nominated in 10 categories, while Spirit and Mosnters were nominated in 7 categories each. This year's Annies were delayed by 6 months from November, when they have been traditionally helled for the past three decades, to February. The awards will be held every February from now on. This was done so that the eligibility period of the Annies would match the eligibility period for the Academy Awards (Oscars), which now have a best Animated Feature Film category.

Last Year, Blood: The Last Vampire was nominated for the "Outstanding Achievement in an Animated Theatrical Feature" award but did not win; Shrek won the Annie.

The entire list of the nominees can be read on the Annie Award website, here.
