A creative vision radically different from other animated works, "Tree of Palme" incorporates a mix of traditional cel and 3D animation to retell the story of Disney's Pinocchio. Ten years in development, five of those years in production, a team of more than 500 people worked on this film that deals with the spiritual journey of a wooden robot named Palme. Director Nakamura Takashi (director of animation for "Akira" and Hayao Miyazaki's former animation collaborator) directs this allegorical tale about the transience of human existence. The screening marks the Southern California premiere screening of the film. Panel discussion following the screening featuring producer Fred Ladd, responsible for the introduction of Japanese anime/manga to the United States with anime experts Fred Patten and Sadao Miyamoto.
