Takara Shares Change Hands

posted on by Christopher Macdonald
Toy Company and Broccoli Owner Sold to Telecom Company

Videogame maker Konami has dumped all 20 million of its shares in Toymaker Takara. The shares, which amount to 20% of Takara, have been sold to cellular phone systems developer and wireless content provider Index Corporation.

Although not a majority share, the 20% makes Index Corporation the largest shareholder.

Konami purchased the Takara shares in 2000. At the time Takara wasn't performing very well financially and Konami helped turn the comany around. However since then Takara has once again fallen into unprofitability as the company has not had a major hit since Beyblade

In 2003 Takara purchased the majority of shares in Broccoli and Japanese video game company Atlus.

Takara and Index Corporation have collaborated on projects in the past.
