Hikaru no Go Licensed?

posted on by Christopher Macdonald
Voice Director and Actor Say Dubbing is in Progress.

This weekend at Anime North, Rob Bakewell, a voice director who was a guest at the con, stated that the Hikaru no Go TV series has been licensed. It was stated that Sam Vincent will be playing the voice of Hikaru. Vic Mignogna also confirmed that Hikaru no Go is being dubbed right now, but did not specify his role, if any, in the series.

In June 2003, the American Go Association reported that Viz had acquired the license for the TV series and the manga, when Viz at the time would only confirm the manga.

Voice actors have in the past suggested that shows have been licensed, when it turned out that the dubs they were involved were only pilot dubs made to show Japanese licensors how the property would be treated if it was licensed by a particular company.

Rob Bakewell and Sam Vincent work for The Ocean Group, a Canadian studio that has recorded English dubs for Bandai Entertainment, Viz and Geneon. Vic Mignogna works for ADV Films and Funimation in Texas.
