Three Korean media companies form Studio ICE

posted on by Isaac Alexander
Sigongsa, Seoul Cultural Publishers and Haksan will preview their manwha titles under the name Studio ICE at the San Diego Comic Con later this month.

Three Korean media companies have chosen to merge together to form Studio ICE, a co-publishing venture that will publish Korean manga titles in the U.S. beginning later this year.

Studio ICE has been in operation in the USA for a number of years. The company originally had a publishing arrangement with Image Comics and produced the title Defiance. Later, the company signed a deal with Devil's Due in 2002 and published Megacity 909 and Justice N Mercy.

The three publishers—Sigongsa, Seoul Cultural Publishers and Haksan—are among the largest media companies in Korea. The companies are modeling Studio ICE after Viz Media. Viz Media is co-owned by Shogakukan, Shuiesha and Sho-Pro.

Kuo-yo Liang, the vice president of sales and marketing at Diamond Book Distribution, said Studio ICE will offer a selection of adventure, fantasy, romance, shojo, and yaoi titles. Liang said Studio ICE will preview the line at the San Diego Comic-Con. Studio ICE will launch with 4 books in October and publish 2 titles per month. Almost all manga are published in multi-volume series; new volumes in these series will be released every 3 months. Diamond Book will handle distribution.
