ICv2: Naruto Manga was "Once in a Lifetime" Success

posted on 2006-10-31 00:21 AEDT
But it's "far too early to tell" if Bleach can come close

If Bleach is Albert Pujols, Naruto is Ted Williams, according to ICv2.

Bookscan sales of Bleach manga volume 1 in the first month after the anime appeared on Cartoon Network were 52.4% of those achieved by Naruto volume 1 in its first month on the network. And more than a year after Naruto debuted on US TV, the first volume of Naruto is still outselling Bleach #1 by 32%.

In trying to predict Bleach's long-term success in the US, ICv2 says it is still "far too early to tell" whether it can come close to the Naruto, but that in terms of US, manga sales, Naruto "gives every appearance of being a once in a lifetime phenomenon."
