The 30th Annual Japan Academy Awards, held February 16th at the Takanawa Prince Hotel in Tokyo, have awarded the "Animation of the Year" award to Toki wo Kakeru Shojo (The Girl Who Leapt Through Time). It is by far the biggest award yet for Hosoda Mamoru's film, which has already trounced its competition in Awards ceremonies throughout the entertainment world.
The other films nominated for the "Animation of the Year" award are as follows:
Arashi no Yoru ni (On A Stormy Night) - Director: Sugii GisaburĂ´
Gedo Senki (Tales of Earthsea) - Director: Miyazaki Goro
Brave Story - Director: Chigira Koichi
Meitantei Conan: Tanteitachi no Chinkonka (Detective Conan/Case Closed: Requiem for the Detectives) Director: Yamamoto Taiichiro
Although TokiKake only took in about 300 million yen (about 3 million US Dollars), reviews and press about the film has been overwhelmingly positive and could lead to brisk sales for a DVD release.
