Famous Cosplayer Blogs about Yaoi in the USA

Yunmao Ayakawa talks about American fandom on Japanese manga news site

Cosplayer and actress Yunmao Ayakawa, who traveled to the United States to be a guest of honor at Daigacon in Bowling Green, Kentucky, has posted a report on the major Japanese manga news site Mantan Web talking about her experiences.

Ayakawa reports that the winners of Daigacon's costume contest were particularly surprising since one of the characters in the performance had a sign that says "I Love Yaoi." While yaoi is a part of the fan culture in Japan, it is not often presented on stage or in performances in Japan.

The blog also mentions the "Random Battle Group," a group of convention attendees who recreate RPG-themed "monster battles" at a number of conventions in the eastern United States. Ayakawa mentions that she was particularly impressed with the way that most of the cosplayers in the contest put skits together in addition to doing a walk-on with their costume.

The full report in Japanese can be found here.
