Tokyopop's Marmalade Boy Anime License Expires (Updated)

posted on by Egan Loo
AnimeonDVD.com reports that Tokyopop's license for Toei Animation's anime adaptation of the Marmalade Boy romance comedy manga has expired. The issue comes in light of Funimation's agreement to distribute Tokyopop's anime DVD releases. Funimation's press release on the agreement last year had indicated that Marmalade Boy would be included in the agreement. However, the license's expiration will prevent this, unless a new license is obtained from the Japanese rights holders. Update: Peter Ahlstrom reports that Tokyopop's licenses for Saint Tail has expired, but only the license for the first 24 episodes of Marmalade Boy has expired. Tokyopop's "license for episodes 25 through 76 will not expire for a couple [of] years yet."
