Mushishi, Dororo Adaptations Win at Sitges Film Festival

Live action manga adaptations win big, Tekkon Kinkreet also honored

The winners of the 40th annual Sitges fantasy, horror and science fiction cinema festival have been announced. Competing in the main festival program, Katsuhiro Ōtomo's live-action version of the Mushishi manga was honored for best special effects and best original soundtrack. Dororo, based on the 1967 Osamu Tezuka manga, won best motion picture in the Orient Express competition.

Tekkonkinkreet, one of four anime selected for this year's Anima't program received a special mention award, while the Gertie Award for best animated feature went to South Korea's Aachi & Ssipak.

Last year Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo (The Girl Who Leapt Through Time) won best animated film in the Anima'T category at the Sitges Festival.
