Eyeshield 21 to Stream on Toonami Jetstream Monday

Football anime debut's announcement does not mention NFLRush.com

Viz Media has announced that Eyeshield 21, the anime series about American football as it is played in Japan, will debut on Viz and Cartoon Network's free online Toonami Jetstream video service in the United States on December 17. The anime series is based on Riichiro Inagaki and Yusuke Murata's manga, which Viz also releases in North America under the Shonen Jump imprint.

The story revolves around Sena Kobayakawa, a boy who discovers that his speed and maneuverability, gained from being constantly picked on at school, can make him a secret weapon of choice on his high school's football team. The 133rd episode of the series airs next week in Japan, and Viz released the 17th volume of the manga this month.

The announcement of Monday's online release makes no mention of NFL Rush, the National Football League's interactive website aimed at children. Viz Media had initially announced that Eyeshield 21 would "air on the Toonami Jetstream and NFL Rush beginning this fall 2007." Viz has not responded to ANN's request for clarification of NFLRush.com's current role in Eyeshield 21. NFL Japan has been co-sponsoring Eyeshield 21's Japanese broadcast and even hosts a section on its website that is entirely dedicated to the anime.

Toonami Jetstream requires Adobe Flash Player and Microsoft Windows Media Player on a Microsoft Windows operating system with an American IP (Internet Protocol) address.
