Faust Magazine Editor Katsushi Ota Interviewed (Update 2)

Editor of light novels, manga describes job, plans for international exchange

The About.com website has posted an interview with Katsushi Ota, the editor of Kodansha's Faust literary magazine of manga and prose stories. Del Rey plans to publish an American edition of Faust this summer with material from CLAMP (Tsubasa, X), Yun Kouga (Loveless, Earthian), and Takeshi Obata (Death Note, Hikaru no Go). Kodansha announced last June that it planned to publish Fred Gallagher and Rodney Caston's Megatokyo comic in the Japanese version of Faust in September, although no Faust issue has been published since December of 2005. (The last issue of the Comic Faust spinoff periodical, pictured at right, was released in July of 2006.) Ota describes his unique job as the sole editor of Faust and the methods he uses to assemble the magazine's diverse content. He also talks about the rise of light novels and manga-influenced works like Megatokyo.

Update: In his commentary on this interview, Del Rey Manga Associate Publisher Dallas Middaugh reveals that the American version of Faust will debut in August. In addition to CLAMP, Kouga, and Obata, the first issue will feature Hajime Ueda (FLCL), Nisi0isin (Death Note: Another Note), Take, and Kouhei Kadono (Boogiepop Never Laughs, Boogiepop Dual).

Update 2: Middaugh says that Gallagher will appear in the second volume of the American edition.
