Comic Flapper Marks 100th Issue with Famous Artists

Media Factory's Monthly Comic Flapper magazine is marking its 100th-issue milestone in Japan by revamping its content and showcasing several famous manga creators over the next four issues. In the 100th issue (March issue, released on February 5 and pictured at right), Kaoru Shintani (Area 88, Cleopatra DC) launches a new story arc of his Christie High-Tension manga, a story about Sherlock Holmes' niece in 19th-century England. In the same issue, Aki Shimizu (Legend of "Zipangu" BLOOD SUCKER, Suikoden III) ends her ongoing Qwan historical fantasy manga after six years. Tokyopop has been publishing Qwan, Zipangu, and Suikoden III in North America.
The April issue (on sale on March 5) will officially launch the magazine's revamp with a one-shot manga by Masaomi Kanzaki (Xenon, Street Fighter II). The renewal continues in the May issue (on sale on April 5) with "official dōjinshi" of Chiko, Heiress of the Phantom Thief, Shinji Ohara's crime caper story that will be animated for television in April. Iou Kuroda (Sexy Voice and Robo, Nasu), Daisuke Igarashi (Hanashippanashi, Witches), Tony Takezaki (A.D. Police, Geno Cyber), Shimizu, and others will all draw pieces based on Chiko, the female thief inspired by Rampo Edogawa's Kaijin Nijū-Mensō (The Thief with 20 Faces).
Tetsuro Kasahara, the creator of the Ride Back robot manga and upcoming anime, will start a new serialized manga, tentatively titled Sukopero, in the June issue (on sale on May 2). Blade of the Immortal's Hiroaki Samura and Shimizu will also contribute one-shot manga in this issue.
