Scott McCloud, Del Rey, Marvel, Publishers Weekly to appear at March event

On March 15, the New York Center for Independent Publishing will hold "Splat," its first annual symposium on graphic novels, comics, and manga. The symposium is aimed at the publishing community, as well as educators, librarians, and those interested in creating their own comics. Some of the individual panels and other sessions will include a look at the changing demographics of graphic novel readers, a discussion on webcomics, workshops on co-creating a comic with a writer and getting published, and a talk on the popularity of anime and manga in public libraries. Confirmed speakers include Del Rey Manga's Tricia Narwani, Marvel Entertainment's C.B. Cebulski, and Calvin Reid, the editor of Publishers Weekly's Comics Week newsletter. The symposium will conclude with a speech by Scott McCloud, the author of Understanding Comics, Reinventing Comics, and 2006's Making Comics: Storytelling Secrets of Comics, Manga, and Graphic Novels. The registration price for the full symposium is US$125.
