Belgium's 26th Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFFF) and Holland's 24th Amsterdam Fantastic Film Festival, which will be held from March 21 to April 8 and from April 9 to April 20, respectively, will each include screenings of three recent anime feature films.

Shinji Aramaki's Appleseed: Ex Machina and Fumihiko Sori's Vexille (pictured at right) will play at both festivals. The two computer-graphics science-fiction movies have been making the rounds at film festivals throughout the world since they were released in Japan last year. Neither Ex Machina nor Vexille has a European distributor yet, though they are being released in North America by Warner Home Video (Ex Machina) and FUNimation Entertainment (Vexille).

The Brussels festival will include a screening of Fist of the North Star: Legend of the True Savior - Legend of Roah: Chapter of Martyred Love (pictured at left). This is the first of three theatrical films and two videos that retell key events in Buronson and Tetsuo Hara's original Fist of the North Star manga series. Before the second movie's Japanese release last April, a mock Buddhist funeral ceremony for the Roah character was used to promote it. Over 3,000 people attended that event.

Makoto Shinkai's 5 Centimeters Per Second will be the third Japanese animated film in the Amsterdam program. It was recently named the best animated feature film at the first-ever Asia-Pacific Screen Awards, and it took the Lancia Platinum Grand Prize at Italy's Future Film Festival in January.
