Funimation Teases with Shigurui Image

posted on by Egan Loo
No official announcement made on Madhouse adaptation of historical manga

The North American distributor Funimation has again posted a darkened-out silhouette of a new title announcement on its main webpage. The silhouette of the Gennosuke Fujiki character from the Shigurui historical anime can be seen by clicking on the "OMG NO WAY" icon on the website. Funimation plans to make an announcement of a new title tomorrow.

In Shigurui, director Hiroshi Hamasaki (Texhnolyze) and the animation Studio Madhouse adapts Takayuki Yamaguchi's manga which is set in Edo-era Japan. The one-armed Fujiki and blind Seigen Irako fight a tournament match to determine the true successor to Kogan Iwamoto, Japan's greatest swordsman. The manga itself adapted Norio Nanjo's Suruga-jō Gozen Jiai (The Tournament at Suruga Castle) novel. The 12-episode anime series ran in Japan from July to October of last year.

Funimation has not officially announced the acquisition or release of this series.

ERRATUM: Director Hamasaki's given name should be Hiroshi instead of Hirotsugu. Thanks, braves.
