U.S. Graphic Novel Ranking at Comic Stores: July (Updated)

posted on by Egan Loo
Naruto 30, Fruits Basket 20 are #3, #5 in direct sales

The ICv2 retail news source estimates that Masashi Kishimoto's Naruto volume 30 (Viz Media) was the #3 bestselling graphic novel in American direct sales during July with 5,819 copies, based on figures provided by Diamond Comic Distributors. Natsuki Takaya's Fruits Basket volume 20 (Tokyopop) was #5 with an estimated 5,328 copies. The remaining manga and manga-inspired titles include Berserk volume 24 (#20), Path of the Assassin volume 12 (#37), Usagi Yojimbo volume 22 (#38), Tsubasa volume 18 (#54), Flight volume 5 (#62), xxxHOLiC volume 12 (#64), Chibi Vampire volume 9 (#80), In Odd We Trust (#93), Inuyasha volume 34 (#94), and Star Trek volume 3 (#97). As in BookScan Top 20 Graphic Novels sales chart for July, the bestselling graphic novel is Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' Watchmen (DC Comics).

Diamond U.S. reports only the sales made through its distribution system to comic book stores and other direct sales outlets. It also does not publicly report the raw numbers of copies sold, but instead reports how each title's sales compare to DC Comics' main Batman title. These figures do not include sales in bookstore chains, department stores, and other outlets outside of Diamond's distribution system.

Update: Naruto's sales numbers and Berserk's volume number corrected. Thanks, fighterholic and grapeofdeath. Ghost Talker's Daydream

Update 2: American Virgin and Ghost Talker's Daydream also made the list at #71 and #79, respectively. Thanks, The Xenos.
