Crunchyroll Licenses TV Tokyo's Web Ghost PiPoPa Anime (Updated)

English title for Net Ghost PiPoPa virtual reality story from Studio Hibari

In its press release for the holiday pricing of its Anime Membership subscription plan, the Crunchyroll media-sharing website has revealed the fifth anime series that it licensed from TV Tokyo: Web Ghost PiPoPa, or Net Ghost PiPoPa as it is known in Japan. The television series began airing in Japan this past April.

The series stars Yūta Akigawa, an elementary school boy who lives in a city run entirely by computers. One day, he opens a phone email message that sucks him inside his mobile phone and into "net space." There he meets three mysterious creatures named Pit, Pot, and Pat — PiPoPa for short. The four go on adventures between both the human world and the net world.

Shinichiro Kimura (Karin, Maburaho, Sugar: A Little Snow Fairy) is directing this anime series at Studio Hibari. Sanami Suzuki has been adapting the story into a manga for Kadokawa Shoten's Kerokero Ace magazine. BB Watch revealed in November that TV Tokyo will distribute five anime series worldwide on the same day that they broadcast in Japan. The other four titles that Crunchyroll licensed from TV Tokyo are the Naruto Shippūden, Gintama, Skip Beat!, and Shugo Chara! television anime series.
