posted on by Egan Loo
Known for playing father roles in TV dramas, including Ninja Hattori-kun

Television drama actor Teizou Muta passed away on Thursday at 11:33 p.m. after collapsing in his Tokyo home. He was 80.

Muta has been appearing in front of the camera since 1966, when he played Kenzō's father in the live-action television adaptation of the Ninja Hattori-kun manga by Doraemon co-creator Motoo Abiko. Since then, Muta has made a name for himself by playing the father figures in many television dramas. His most prominent role was his decade-long role as the father in the long-running children's drama, Ken Chan. He also appeared in the live-action versions of the Cosmic Baton Girl Comet-san, Ore wa Otoko da!, Antique Bakery, and Iryū - Team Medical Dragon 2 manga, and he narrated the puppet television series Ginga Shonen Tai. His last role was in 2008's Bōshi television drama.

In his personal life, he volunteered extensively for causes that supported victims of ijime (childhood bullying) and other social issues in Japan.
