Ghiblies 2's Yoshiyuki Momose directed video for Aragaki's "piece" single

Studio Ghibli has confirmed on Friday that it animated a music video for "piece," the third new single from 20-year-old actress/singer Yui Aragaki. Aragaki had appeared as the host "navigator" in Hirake! Mahō no Tobira ~Isshoni Utaou Yume no Uta~ (Open the Magic Door! The Songs of Dreams to Sing Along), an NHK television special of Disney and Studio Ghibli music, on Children's Day last May. The studio had already revealed last August that Ghiblies episode 2 director Yoshiyuki Momose was working on a secret project, although Warner Music Japan reportedly did not formally ask for Ghibli to animate the music video until November. Ghibli later posted about the music video's private studio screening last month, in which Aragaki reportedly teared up.

Momose also illustrated a limited-edition variant cover (pictured at right) for Aragaki's CD single, while Aragaki herself drew another variant cover. Warner Music Japan is hosting audio samples and an image of Aragaki's variant cover for the single online. According to Ghibli, the theme of Aragaki's song and Momose's video is a girl wishing to reach out to people. The CD will ship in Japan on February 25.

Aragaki also created a separate live-action music video for her new song. In addition to live-action roles, she voiced the character Yoshino Fujieda in Digimon: Data Squad and Mirara in the first Keroro Gunsō movie. Momose had previously contributed to three music videos for the Capsule musical group.
