Bandai to Sell Battle Spirits Trading Card Game in U.S.

posted on by Egan Loo

The Japanese toy and game maker Bandai will export its Battle Spirits trading card game to North America this summer. The company will demonstrate the game to retailers at next month's GAMA Trade Show in Las Vegas, and then preview the game to the public at this summer's Origins Game Fair, Anime Expo, and Comic-Con International conventions. The official public launch will take place at Gen Con Indianapolis in Indiana in August. Bandai is in talks to release Sunrise's anime spinoff in the United States, but there are no finalized plans for either the anime or Hideaki Fujii's manga adaptation.

The game debuted in Japan last September after Bandai spent three years developing this "new generation of trading card game." The cards represent dragons, demons, birds, insects, and other spirits that the players control in battles. Bandai said the game is distinguished by its fast gameplay and immediate turnarounds. American Michael Elliott (Magic, Duel Masters, Xiaolin Showdown card games) has been in charge of development.
