Pénélope Kids' Anime Gets New Series This Summer

A new series for the anime adaptation of Ann Gutman and Georg Hallensleben's Pénélope picture books was announced at the Tokyo International Anime Fair 2009 on Wednesday. The new Pénélope tête en l'air (Ukkari Pénélope or Pénélope, Head in the Clouds) series will start this summer in Japan. The NHK public broadcaster's NHK-Educational channel will air the program. The European picture books recount the adventures of a naive three-year-old blue koala and her friends. Nippon Animation had animated the books' characters in the earlier 2006 Pénélope tête en l'air series of 26 five-minute episodes and 2007's Pénélope's Christmas Party special.
