Crunchyroll Adds Shangri-La, 2 La Corda D'Oro Anime

Free simulcast of Naruto Shippūden episode on March 26

The Crunchyroll media distribution website has announced that it will simulcast Gonzo's Shangri-La science-fiction anime and Aniplex's La Corda D'Oro ~secondo passo~ high school music anime series to its Anime Membership subscribers within an hour of each episode's Japanese airing this spring. Shangri-La will premiere on April 6, while the first television special for La Corda D'Oro ~secondo passo~ will premiere on March 26.

The Shangri-La anime adapts Eiichi Ikegami's novel about what happens to Tokyo when global warming turns the city into a tropical city in the middle of the 21st century. To reduce the temperature at the heart of the city by 5°C (9°F), the city is being reborn as the world's largest forest city. However, despite the flow of refugees to the new city of Atlas, there are not many residents who can actually live in this sanctuary for the elite. Moreover, anti-government guerillas are attempting to stop the forestation. An English version of the official Japanese website for the anime has launched this week. The staff includes director Makoto Bessho (Ah! My Goddess: The Movie, Armitage: Dual-Matrix), series script supervisor Hiroshi Ohnogi (Arjuna, Noein - to your other self), and character designer Range Murata (Blue Submarine No. 6, Last Exile).

Crunchyroll will also begin streaming the first La Corda d'Oro anime series, La Corda D'Oro - primo passo, on March 20. Both La Corda d'Oro anime adapt KOEI's female-oriented romance simulation game franchise of the same name. Their stories center on a girl named Kahoko who receives a magical violin to compete in her academy's elite music program with a bevy of handsome males. Viz Media will publish the 10th volume of Yuki Kure's manga version of La Corda d'Oro in North America next month.

Crunchyroll will mark the back-to-back airing of two Naruto Shippūden episodes on March 26 by streaming the first of the two episodes, episode 101, for free within an hour of its Japanese airing. There will be no new episode of Naruto Shippūden this week in Japan or on Crunchyroll due to a pre-emption.
