Kadokawa to Launch Young Ace Magazine with Eva in July (Update 2)

A flyer packed in new volumes of the Neon Genesis Evangelion: The Shinji Ikari Raising Project and Neon Genesis Evangelion: Gakuen Datenroku manga has announced that Kadokawa Shoten will launch a new magazine called Young Ace in July. The magazine will feature the return of Yoshiyuki Sadamoto's Neon Genesis Evangelion manga, Eiji Ohtsuka and Shōu Tajima's MPD-Psycho manga, Iqura Sugimoto's manga version of Mamoru Hosoda and Sadamoto's upcoming Summer Wars anime film, and Puyo's Haruhi Suzumiya spinoff comedy manga — Nagato Yuki-chan no Shōshitsu (The Disappearance of Yuki Nagato-chan).

As a reflection of its target audience of young adults, Young Ace's English tagline describes the publication as a "magazine for people who never give up reading Comic!" Sadamoto launched his Evangelion manga in Kadokawa's Monthly Shōnen Ace magazine in December of 1994 — ten months before the Gainax studio premiered the anime itself.

Viz Media published the 11th volume of Sadamoto's Evangelion manga in North America last November, while ADV Films, Manga Entertainment, and Funimation are distributing the various anime incarnations of the franchise. Dark Horse Comics publishes MPD-Psycho and will start its Neon Genesis Evangelion: The Shinji Ikari Raising Project run this June.

Kyoto Animation has been streaming the anime adaptation of Puyo's Melancholy of Haruhi-chan Suzumiya manga on the YouTube video website with English subtitles since last month. Little, Brown Books for Young Readers is publishing Nagaru Tanigawa's original Haruhi Suzumiya light novels, while Yen Press is publishing Gaku Tsugano's manga adaptation. Bandai Entertainment distributes the first Haruhi anime series in North America.

Update 2: CMX Manga publishes Sugimoto's Variante manga in North America. The final issue of Kadokawa Shoten's Monthly Comic CHARGE magazine had already confirmed in January that its MPD-Psycho, The Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service, and Yakumo Hyakkai manga will migrate to a new magazine this summer.
