Miyazaki in China; CLAMP, Ai Yazawa, AKB48 in France

posted on by Egan Loo

Academy Award-winning director Hayao Miyazaki (Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away) is attending the Expo Central China 2009 event to make a speech on Monday at Hefei, China. His speech is part of the China International Cartoon & Animation Industry Summit Forum.

The Japan Expo convention in Paris has announced that the AKB48 female idol group's Team A will perform during the July 2-5 event. Team A is one third of the 48-member group; the other two teams are K and B, which stand for the other two syllables of the "Akiba" otaku shopping district of Tokyo. The 16 idols will join the guests that Japan Expo announced earlier this month: the CLAMP manga quartet (pictured at left) and NANA manga creator Ai Yazawa. CLAMP's many manga works include X, Magic Knight Rayearth, Cardcaptor Sakura, Chobits, xxxHOLiC, and Tsubasa, RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE. This year's "Japan Expo 10th Impact" will be the first time that any of these guests have been invited to appear in an event in France. Last year, 134,000 peeople attended the event.
