Funimation Writer Spencer Prokop Passes Away at 51

posted on by Egan Loo
Prokop worked on Kodocha, Mushi-Shi, One Piece, School Rumble, Tsubasa, more

The Art&Seek blog of the KERA public television station in Texas reported last week that Spencer Prokop, a frequent contributor to Funimation's dubs in both writing and acting, passed away on June 7 due to pancreatic cancer. He was 51. Prokop worked on the scripts for the English adaptations of BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad, Kodocha, Mushi-Shi, One Piece, School Rumble, Tsubasa: RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE, xxxHOLiC, and several other series. He also acted in the English dubs of some of Funimation's titles such as Baccano!, Darker than Black, and KenIchi the Mightiest Disciple. Outside anime, he was "a fixture on North Texas stages" and played roles in RoboCop, the Deus Ex game, and episodes of Walker, Texas Ranger.

Prokop had been battling pancreatic cancer for over two years. He is survived by his wife Patty Lewis and their son Chase. After a private service, a public memorial service will be held on Monday, June 22 at Theatre Three in Dallas. The family requests no flowers or plants; instead, donations may be given in Prokop's name to The Nature Conservancy and to the Lakewood Montessori School.

Thank you to Aaron H. Bynum for the news tip.
