Osamu Tezuka's Dororo Manga Wins Eisner Award

Osamu Tezuka's Dororo manga (Vertical) has won the Will Eisner Award for Best U.S. Edition of International Material—Japan at Comic-Con International on Friday evening in San Diego, California. Dororo is only the third winner of the recently added category. (Garon Tsuchiya and Nobuaki Minegishi's Old Boy won the first award, while Taiyo Matsumoto's Tekkonkinkreet: Black & White won last year.) Although Japanese manga titles were nominated in three other categories, no other Japanese manga won awards this year. Dororo was competing against Kazuo Umezu's Cat Eyed Boy (Viz Media), Naoki Urasawa's Monster (Viz Media), Jiro Taniguchi's The Quest for the Missing Girl (Fanfare / Ponent Mon), and Inio Asano's Solanin (Viz Media).
World manga creator Nina Matsumoto was part of the team with Ian Boothby and Andrew Pepoy that won the Best Short Story Eisner for "Murder He Wrote" in The Simpsons' Treehouse of Horror #14 (Bongo).
