Yomiuri ad from Miyazaki's son Goro, Mahoroba no Kodama from Ghibli founder

The Yomiuri Shimbun paper has begun streaming the 15-second television commercial that Studio Ghibli animated under the direction of Goro Miyazaki, the son of the studio's co-founder Hayao Miyazaki, on Saturday. The older Miyazaki planned the "Fūsen Gum-suke to Wakaru" commercial, which is inspired by the 20th-century manga artist Shigeru Sugiura. (Ghibli thanked Sugiura in the credits of the Pom Poko film for inspiring some of the depictions of the film's tanuki creatures.)

Yomiuri Shimbun is still streaming the earlier 30-second "Ghibli Kawara" commercial, in which Studio Ghibli recreate how people read the newspaper when it first started. (In all, Ghibli has produced three commercials for Yomiuri.) The newspaper is also streaming "Birthday Cake," a 30-second commercial in which the female idol group AKB48 celebrate Yomiuri's 135th anniversary.

The Kawasemiza puppeteering company posted an abridged 10-minute video from "Mahoroba no Kodama," the work directed by Pom Poko director and fellow Ghibli founder Isao Takahata, on the YouTube website last November. According to Kawasemiza, "Where Spirits and Fairies Dwell" is "an omnibus-style performance composed of various short tales which are based on Japanese legends and folk myths expressing dreams."
