Desert Punk/Sunabozu Manga Returns After 4 Years

Masatoshi Usune's post-apocalyptic manga inspired 2004-2005 TV anime

The September issue of Enterbrain's Monthly Comic Beam magazine has announced on Wednesday that Masatoshi Usune will resume his Desert Punk (Sunabozu) action manga after a hiatus of four years and two months. The manga will return in the next issue on September 12. In the post-apocalyptic future of the original story, a mercenary bounty hunter known as the "Desert Punk" journeys across the Great Kantō Desert where Tokyo once stood.

In late 2004, Usune launched a new chapter of his manga that focused on the original Desert Punk's young female follower, Kosuna. However, the creator has not drawn the manga since the summer of 2005. Director Takayuki Inagaki (Rosario + Vampire, Indian Summer) and Gonzo adapted the manga into a television anime series from 2004 to 2005. Funimation licensed released the anime in North America.

Hideki Arai, the creator of the award-nominated Kiichi!! manga, has launched a new manga called Scatter -Anata ga Koko ni Ite Hoshii- (Scatter: I Want You Here) in Monthly Comic Beam on Wednesday.
